A swashbuckling outer-space adventure populated by a bevy of beautiful women, and some of the best animations I've seen in the AVN sphere. There are hints of Mass Effect and various anime in its influences, and it features an evocative soundtrack, and a well designed UI. You can choose to play it in Sandbox or AVN mode. The plot is occasionally uneven, but as a whole this project deserves a lot of love.
Ripples is a gorgeous game with top notch art, fun characters, and a time travel plot that intrigues, even if it isn't necessarily breaking new ground. If I were a younger man, I would describe Ripples as 'a vibe.' It's also a tribute to Jestur's hard work as he raises his render game to new heights. Normally I don't love reworks in the midst of development, but what he did with his early chapters is something to behold.
Race of Life's most immediate draw is its' stunning visuals, but under the hood it offers a good deal more. It has some of the hottest H scenes on the market, a clever racing mini-game that doesn't overstay its welcome, and a top notch cast. Occasionally it wants to have its cake and eat it too: It gives you some anti-hero choices, which it occasionally walks back if you opt for them. But the MC is still mostly a well drawn character, and the writing is solidly above average. The Race of Life will not waste your time.
Defending Lydia Collier is a thriller where your experience is partly based on your approach to the main plot, and partly based around which woman/women you choose to romance. This makes replayability a bit tough as the central story stays basically the same each time...but it's a small caveat in an otherwise well put together and good looking game with mostly above average writing. The laptop integration is also a clever touch, letting your exploration of world events help create the atmosphere.
A lot of folks might choose Eternum, but I really enjoyed the supernatural/horror aesthetic of OiaLT, and the strong character building. The story had a nice comedic sensibility, and you could really see the writing gain in confidence as it went along. The art was also extremely good for its time, and I appreciate that it went for a motif instead of realism. Even if not everything about the story was 100% original, the passion of a new creator really shone through in this effort. It's unusual to see an AVN stick its' landing this well, and it's not a surprise that Caribdis' next project took off like a rocketship.
Usually monstergirl/furry type kinks aren't my cup of tea, but I don't know what to tell you; CyanCapsule made an anthropomorphic pig attractive. The writing is high quality, fun and breezy but hot when the moment calls for it. The story isn't complex, at least so far, but it gets the job done advancing the main character from point A to point B. Much like Ripples (although very different in content) this is a vibes game, and if you enjoy your first 20-30 minutes with it, you're going to enjoy everything that comes after.
At its heart Vae Victis - Khan is your basic harem game, but by attaching a simple yet engaging revenge plot, some better than it needs to be world building, and top tier writing, Doorknob comes up with a title that is more than the sum of its parts. The art in this title is slightly below the standard on this list, although it is more than servicable...but the game compensates by understanding and leaning into its' strengths. This is a well realized world with tantalizing characters, and a heavy focus on mdom. If those elements tickle your fantasy, you'll enjoy your time with Vae Victis - Khan
City of Broken Dreamers delivered its' final update in 2024, and although it felt a bit truncated, the game was ambitious in plot, with a lot of stylish cyberpunk visuals, and some great music and action sequences. It deserves its' flowers, and it serves as a compelling argument after Depraved Awakenings that PhillyGames will be a force in the AVN community for as long as they choose to be.
Chasing Sunsets also delivered its' final chapter in 2024, and it felt extremely truncated. It's futile to speculate, but pacing wise it felt as thought the developer ended this game a bit before they hoped to. Nonetheless, the game had a compelling intro, solid writing, and some unbelievably hot renders. Jaye, for my money, is one of if not THE most beautiful woman in any AVN to date. In a field where completed games are a rarity, Chasing Sunsets is very much worth a playthrough, even if it didn't fully deliver on its potential.
Being a Dik has been something of a staple of the AVN genre for quite some time, and chances are you had an opinion on it before reading this. The girls are still good looking, even if the models have aged, and the story, when avoiding melodrama or 'serious themes,' is a fun romp. Flourishes like the music and the phone UI are exceptional. That said, contrived plot choices and brutally long update times are becoming the norm in BaDIK, and my feeling is that if the story drops 4 more updates in the next 4 years, time will no longer be on its side.
