Synopsis

Our Red String is the intertwined stories of a male and female MC (Ian and Lena, respectively) navigating some formative moments of their young lives.

Both of them will face professional challenges, upheavals in their (often interconnected) friends groups, and moral dilemmas. In helping them chart their paths through these crucial decisions, you will shape an ambitious narrative and see both the main characters, and their friends and peers, change to reflect what you have done.

Our Red String is an incredibly complex multi-path experience.

The Review

Our Red String is one of the more ambitious stories attempted in the AVN format. Having dual protagonists with perhaps 50+ branching choices, and then intersecting those between the two runs is a tricky narrative feat. When it works the results are stunningly immersive storytelling. When it doesn't, occasionally the story just doesn't make sense. To their credit, EvaKiss is hitting a lot more than they are missing. EvaKiss continues to set a high standard with 2d art, which is mostly, but not always, matched by other team members they have brought on. Sex scenes, though not quite to the level of previous effort Good Girl Gone Bad, are usually intense and are better written and storyboarded than most games. Dialogue gets you where you need to go, and most of the characters are strongly written, though a few cliches do pepper the story. There is the occasional hate sex or corruption motif in the game, but generally this effort seems a bit lighter than Good Girl Gone Bad.

Our Red String's ambition should be applauded, and its replayability can't be emulated.

Q1 2025 Update

In 2024 EvaKiss switched from long development times delivering large chapters to delivering pieces of the chapters in shorter development windows. Recent updates have featured the conclusion of a beach vacation and some of Lena's time with Seymour.

Pros:

  • Content is delivered more frequently
  • Some good character and sex scenes sprinkled throughout
  • Beach trip didn't overstay its welcome
  • Emma/Seymour action teased

Cons:

  • Small update chunks make the narrative feel disjointed
  • More frequent updates can't help the fact that some characters get sidelined for long periods of time
